A few more days, 2020 will be gone, therefore it’s about time for me to think about my word for next year. But prior to that let’s have a flash-back on the impact these last months, these last days had on my 2020 word:
“Serenity”
Basically, I did well in terms of my chosen word, being my self advocate I honestly can admit the fact. I won’t list all the events that occurred but considering the pandemic, day to day life, ups and downs, honestly my targeted word was reached. On a personal tone, regarding family and friends, am fortunate and blessed that everything went smoothly, on the whole my daily wasn’t really affected by lockdowns and self distancing, things have to be as they have so that’s it. When you get old you acquire a certain philosophy.
Of course, broadening my conclusion, Covid has been a disaster and regrettably is still is for the whole World. My thoughts are for all the families who lost loved ones, all those who are still suffering either directly or indirectly, not withstanding the enormous impact on the worldwide economy with its catastrophic fallout.
That’s said for 2020. The show must go on!
What will be my chosen word for 2021? After some hesitation, some selection, finally I came to the conclusion that it will be:
“Hope”
This word, from Old English hopian, used in the 12th century, implies little certainty but suggests confidence or assurance in the possibility that what one desires or longs for will happen. Simply I will apply the archaic definition of “hope”: “a feeling of trust”. Yes, this word helps to move forward, to expect a better future and many more, to look far away…
It will be exhaustive for me to explain the reason or purpose of my choice. We all live in the same World, we are all concerned by the joyful and/or dramatic events occurring around the globe. We all have to meet every challenge with courage and determination or at least try. This is enough to substantiate my word for 2021.
May be you will understand better why “Hope” is my word when you will learn that my family crest’s motto is “Dum spiro spero” (“As long as I breathe, I hope”).
